Getting Started

How do I create my first podcast?
After signing up, click "New Episode" from your dashboard. Enter a topic or paste a URL, choose a podcast style and language, then hit "Generate." PodThis handles the research, scripting, voice synthesis, and cover art automatically — your episode will be ready in about two minutes.
What is the podcast generation pipeline?
PodThis uses a 7-stage AI pipeline: Research (gathering and analyzing sources), Script (writing the episode), Voice (neural text-to-speech synthesis), Cover Art (AI-generated episode artwork), Assembly (combining audio segments with transitions), Packaging (adding metadata, chapters, and transcripts), and Analytics (tracking listens and engagement). You can watch each stage progress in real-time.
How do I set up my creator profile?
Go to your profile settings to add a display name, bio, avatar, and social links. Your creator profile is your public identity on PodThis — it appears on your published episodes and can be shared with a unique URL. You can also pin a featured episode to your profile.
What are usage limits and how do they work?
Each plan has monthly limits for the number of episodes you can generate. Free users get a set number of episodes; Creator and Producer plans increase the limit. Your usage resets on the 1st of each month (UTC). Check your current usage anytime from the dashboard.
Can I use PodThis on my phone?
Yes. PodThis is a web application that works in any modern browser on desktop, tablet, or mobile. The interface is fully responsive — you can create, listen to, and manage episodes from your phone. There's no native app, but the mobile web experience is optimized for touch.

Creating Podcasts

How do I write a good topic prompt?
Be specific about what you want covered. Instead of "tell me about space," try "Explain the latest discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope and what they mean for our understanding of galaxy formation." Include the angle or perspective you want. You can also paste a URL and PodThis will research and summarize the content automatically.
What podcast styles are available?
PodThis offers 15 podcast styles including Documentary, Narrative, Interview, Educational, News Briefing, Deep Dive, Debate, Storytelling, Comedy, Review, How-To, Roundtable, Investigative, Profile, and Explainer. Each style shapes the tone, pacing, and structure of the generated script. Documentary is our most popular style.
Can I create podcasts in different languages?
Yes — PodThis supports over 80 languages with neural text-to-speech. Select any supported language when creating an episode. The AI will research, write, and synthesize voice in your chosen language. Some languages are in Preview status with expanding quality. See the full list on our Languages page.
How long can my episodes be?
Episode length depends on your plan. Free accounts have a shorter maximum duration, while Creator and Producer plans allow longer episodes. The AI automatically structures content to fit within your plan's limits. Check your plan's maximum duration on the Pricing page.
What topics work best with PodThis?
PodThis works well with any topic that benefits from research and explanation — science, technology, history, current events, business, education, health, culture, and more. Topics with publicly available information produce the best results since the AI researches from web sources. Highly personal or niche topics without public sources may produce thinner content.

Voice & Audio

What voice options are available?
PodThis uses Gemini neural text-to-speech with multiple voice personas. Each persona has a distinct tone and speaking style suited to different content types. You can preview voices before generating, and the AI automatically matches voice characteristics to your chosen podcast style for the best result.
What audio quality can I expect?
All episodes are generated at up to 320kbps — broadcast quality suitable for all major podcast platforms. The audio includes natural-sounding speech with appropriate pacing, emphasis, and pauses. Chapter markers are embedded in the file for easy navigation in supported players.
Can I choose different voices for different episodes?
Yes. Each episode can use a different voice persona. When creating a new episode, select your preferred voice from the available personas. This lets you match the voice to the content — a warm, conversational tone for storytelling or a crisp, authoritative voice for news briefings.
What are chapter markers and how do they work?
Chapters divide your episode into navigable sections. PodThis automatically generates chapter markers based on the content structure. Listeners can skip to specific sections using chapter navigation in supported podcast players. The number of chapters available depends on your plan tier.
Why does my episode sound different from what I expected?
The AI may rephrase content during voice synthesis to comply with content moderation guidelines. If specific words or phrases trigger moderation filters, the TTS engine automatically adjusts the wording while preserving the meaning. This ensures reliable generation without failures. If an episode sounds significantly different from your prompt, try rephrasing sensitive terms.

Publishing & Sharing

What visibility options do I have for episodes?
Episodes can be set to Public (visible to everyone and discoverable on PodThis), Unlisted (accessible via direct link but not listed publicly), or Private (only visible to you). Visibility options depend on your plan — Free users can create public and unlisted episodes, while paid plans may offer additional controls.
How do I download my episodes?
If your plan includes downloads, click the download button on any episode page to get the MP3 file. You can also download episode transcripts as text files. Downloads are available on Creator and Producer plans. Free plan users can stream episodes but downloading requires an upgrade.
Can I share my episodes on social media?
Yes. Every public or unlisted episode has a shareable link. Click the share button on any episode to copy the link. Shared episodes display cover art, title, and a player for instant listening. You can post the link directly to any social platform.
How does AI cover art generation work?
PodThis automatically generates unique cover art for each episode using AI image generation. The artwork is based on your episode's topic and style. Cover art is included with every episode at no extra cost and is embedded in the MP3 metadata for display in podcast players.
Can I access episode transcripts?
Yes. Every episode includes a full transcript generated during the scripting stage. Transcripts are viewable on the episode page and can be downloaded on supported plans. They include the complete text of the episode for easy reference and accessibility.

Account & Billing

What plans are available and how much do they cost?
PodThis offers three tiers: Free (no credit card required, limited episodes and duration), Creator (more episodes, longer duration, downloads), and Producer (maximum limits, priority queue, advanced analytics). Visit our Pricing page for current pricing. Annual billing saves approximately 20% compared to monthly.
How do I upgrade or downgrade my plan?
Change your plan anytime from your account settings. Upgrades take effect immediately with pro-rated billing. Downgrades apply at the end of your current billing period so you keep full access until then. Your existing episodes are never deleted when changing plans.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept all major credit and debit cards through Stripe. For annual plans, invoice-based billing is available for teams. All payments are processed securely — PodThis never stores your card details directly.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Go to your account settings and select "Manage Subscription." Cancel anytime — you keep access to paid features until the end of your current billing period. Your episodes and data remain accessible after cancellation, but you'll revert to Free plan limits for new generations.
Is my data secure?
Yes. PodThis uses Firebase Authentication for secure sign-in, and all data is encrypted in transit and at rest. We never share your personal information or episode content with third parties. You can request a full export of your data or delete your account at any time from account settings.

Troubleshooting

My episode generation is stuck or failed. What should I do?
Generation typically takes about two minutes. If it's been longer than five minutes or you see an error, try refreshing the page and checking your episode list — the episode may have completed in the background. If it genuinely failed, create a new episode with the same topic. Persistent failures may indicate a temporary service issue; try again in a few minutes.
Why am I seeing a 'limit reached' message?
You've used all your monthly episode generations for your current plan. Your limit resets on the 1st of each month (UTC). You can upgrade to a higher plan for more episodes, or wait for the reset. Your existing episodes remain fully accessible regardless.
The audio sounds poor or distorted. How can I fix it?
PodThis generates at high quality (up to 320kbps). If audio sounds poor, check your internet connection and playback device. Try downloading the episode and playing it locally if streaming quality seems low. If the issue persists across multiple episodes, contact support@podthis.com with the episode link.
I can't sign in to my account. What should I do?
PodThis uses Firebase Authentication. Try resetting your password via the "Forgot Password" link on the sign-in page. If you signed up with Google or another provider, make sure you're using the same method. Clear your browser cache and cookies if stuck in a redirect loop. Contact support@podthis.com if you still can't access your account.
My cover art didn't generate or looks wrong.
Cover art is generated automatically based on your episode's topic. If it didn't generate or doesn't match your expectations, creating a new episode will produce fresh cover art. Each generation produces unique artwork. Custom cover art uploads are not currently supported but are on our roadmap.
